Research from Ghana, Kenya, India, and Brazil has documented effects on motor symptoms and sperm health using various measures. Yet most international research examines Indian cultivars. Thailand's botanical subspecies prompted local researchers to pursue dedicated laboratory studies to understand whether varietal differences influence how compounds in the plant function.

What Happens Next in the Research Pipeline

Researchers have indicated interest in pursuing human clinical trials to test whether the laboratory findings translate to human biology. Any such trials would need to follow established regulatory pathways and ethical standards. If early human safety testing were to proceed and yield positive results, longer-term efficacy studies would be required. This process typically takes several years at minimum.

The potential exists based on laboratory data—animal models showed effects on targeted biological pathways and researchers documented safety signals in rats. But potential is not proof. Substantial additional research, conducted to rigorous scientific standards, would be required before this extract could be considered a viable treatment option for people in Thailand or elsewhere.
