Thailand Royal Police in Chiang Rai are investigating the death of a 36-year-old man whose body was discovered beside a rural access road near rice paddies in Mueang district on June 6, 2026—just 24 hours after emergency responders assisted him following a motorcycle accident in the same location.

Timeline of Events

The victim, identified by local authorities as Komsun, a resident of Nang Lae subdistrict in Mueang Chiang Rai, first encountered trouble on the afternoon of June 5. His motorcycle became stuck in muddy terrain along the 25 Rai Road near Ban Rai Samphankit village in Rim Khok subdistrict. Officers from Ban Du Police Station, along with district rescue personnel, responded to the scene and assisted him.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing Komsun walking in the area around the rice fields throughout the day on June 5, despite having been helped by emergency responders. He did not return to retrieve his motorcycle or head home. At approximately noon on June 6, a local resident discovered his body lying motionless by the roadside.

Investigation Status

Thailand forensic teams conducted a preliminary examination at the scene and found no signs of trauma, external injuries, or evidence of a physical altercation. The ground surrounding the body showed no disturbance consistent with a struggle.

Police have not determined the cause of death and are not ruling out any potential factors, including pre-existing medical conditions, health-related emergencies, or environmental factors. The body has been transferred to the provincial medical examiner's office for a complete autopsy. Results are expected within the coming days.

Ban Du Police Station is coordinating the investigation and has appealed for anyone with information about Komsun's movements between the afternoon of June 5 and midday June 6 to come forward.

Community Response

Family members have been notified, and local officials have expressed condolences. Community leaders in Rim Khok subdistrict have encouraged residents to travel in pairs when working in isolated areas and to maintain communication with family members about their whereabouts.

The investigation continues, with police reviewing witness statements and examining Komsun's medical history. Residents in the area have been cooperative, and authorities expect clarity within the week once the autopsy report is finalized and reviewed by provincial medical examiners.
